half as often, twice as much.
so, the more astute of you will notice a little format change today. since i draw the comic in full pages, and chop em in half to deliver 2 half pages a week, i’ve decided ‘screw it’, and will now just be putting 1 whole juicy page on mondays, and not 2 measly morsels spread out throughout the week. i suspect i’ll not get as many visitors, people won’t have to come in twice a week to stay current, but i also suspect the more casual readers will appreciate being able to stay current without the hassle of trying to remember what page they were on.
this will largely be a cosmetic change, but, it will free me up to break the half and half page format i had to stick to before. i might even be able to do full page establishing shots. something that intrigues me a little. and as a side benefit, it changes something for the sake of change, something i’ve criticized other creative types for in the past, but sometimes you do feel the urge to shake things up a little. feel free to let me know what you think about the new change!
weird title, weirder show. not much you can say about this one without giving anything away, but while it’s strange, it’s strange with a hook. of course, the whole thing could ‘battlestar gallactica’ and go so far up it’s own ass that it makes it’s most devout audience feel betrayed and lost, but without hope that something will knock your socks off, you just become that ranty guy on this internet, complaining about the new robocop, 3 years later. oh wait….. nevermind.
neil gaiman writes on the show, writer of the old sandman series. a heavy hitter who brings some graphic novel cred, to be sure. so, with that, and one episode in…. we’ll see. fingers crossed.
Against better judgment, I’m beginning to like this ol’ Kraken…..
I remember thinking when i read American Gods thinking that the way some of the story arcs were written made me think of comics or graphic novels but there weren’t any at that time that i could find. It should work good for tv but I haven’t watched it yet.
well, it’s a very visual story, and gaiman is kind of a visual writer… it makes sense that it would work for a variety of mediums.
Quick note, American Gods is also a Neil Gaiman novel, and a good one (if also weird, like a lot of his stuff). Presumably the show is changing / adding to the novel; I haven’t seen it so far, but I definitely enjoyed the book.
oh yeah? so, it’s an adaptation…. i’m conflicted. i should go back and read the actual novel, or i’m full of crap… then again, i might like the show less…. dilemma…..
but that totally makes sense, thanks for letting me/us know!
That book is one of my very favorites of all time (trust me, that is saying something), and therefore I do not think I can ever watch and enjoy the show. Sadly, the cast in my head is always better. Plus I have heard they are giving some of my favorite characters the short shrift. *Shrugs*
i suppose that’s kinda the thing i’ve been going on about lately. i should just read the novel, and be happy with it. but at the very least, this isn’t a remake of another film, and with any luck, gaiman is directly involved. but who knows? but i can understand why someone who read the book would never be able to enjoy the show for what it is, without being haunted with how they saw it in their head.
on the plus side, i learned a new phrase! short shrift. that’s a good one. and that’s disappointing. if i watch on, and someone gets killed off, i’ll never know how originally integral to the story they were.
Oh, honey. Do not count on any characters to survive. Some of the best characters even start off dead and work around it *laughs*
hey, don’t hugh honey me, i’m a vic vinegar if ever there was one.
but i like that kinda story. i always thought that if i did another comic, it would be ultra trippy sci fi. but that’s a tight rope. keeping people attached to things in free fall…. takes a good writer.
If it makes you feel better, there’s also a comic (serialized graphic novel) that’s out now, too. I’m reading the comic, and it seems to be following the book pretty well.
Or you can just trash your angst, shoot your TV in the face, not unlike strip #130 (but mine died of natural causes), read books, and feel happy.
Yeah, American Gods is a funky story. But it’s good.
haha, no, i don’t think i’ll page 130 my tv. maybe if i say it enough, that’ll become a saying. i should put that onto urbandictionary.com
page 130 – noun, to shoot it in the face. origin, some webcomic… it was a tv face thing…. it died.
