Hey guys, gals and whomever is reading. A couple updates today, just thought i’d clue you in, and thanks as always for dropping by.
a few readers have at points proposed new ideas in an attempt to get me to quit whining about my readership, by helping me grow it. big ups to darthsyphilis (ouch) who suggested on more than one occasion i set up a reddit page. it doesn’t hurt, it’s free, and it was easy to do, so if you want to join us over at reddit, go on over to r/BlackandBlueComic and join the fun. i don’t know what it’ll turn into, probably just a more freeform version of the chatting that happens here from page to page, but even that might be worth while. let’s see!
another reader asked if there were any way to donate to the cause, without getting locked into the whole patreon thing. which, i didn’t really think about before, but i totally get. of course i appreciate any help about as much as a nice comment, but to people who feel like chipping in, thanks in advance, and i’ve got it sorted out. an idea from yet ANOTHER reader! this idea was a service i had never heard of called Ko-Fi where people can donate to artists without a monthly pocket grab. one and done, baby! so, if one were so inclined, they could visit my page at ko-fi.com/blackandbluecomic and help a dude out. as it is, i think i have my hosting and photoshop subscription paid for, so anything more would be gravy. let me know in a note if you want a shout out, or a scribble, or what, and i’ll try to help you out. as usual, thank you to my monthly patreons for signing on for a longer term commitment. and no shade to the people who are just here to read. say something nice, tell a friend, or quietly lurk. you do what’s right for you.
all out of news for now. someone else suggested a kickstarter. that’s a good idea too, but i don’t have the time or money to launch one properly, and the world is already too full of kickstarters that over promise, and underwhelm, and i don’t want to do that to you guys. maybe one day. thanks to the people who recently showed interest is a physical print of the comic. maybe one day… a long time from now. we’ll see. 450+ pages, and we’re just getting going!
I’m so glad you took my suggestions well, as they were intended. I understand very well wanting to progress slowly, cautiously. I never did get my own site up (for art, blogging, life hacks, etc)( oh, and dogs, and plants, and books ….)
What you have here is a lovely piece of work. Impressive.
And anyone younger than I am just has to put up with my Young Pup comments. With respect, of course.
THE ALIENS. Ever since NY phobe OS updated, this is what swype or just plain careful typing looks like. I have to edit everything.

Well, for one, you don’t sell the entire book. Instead, you sell say the first 5 chapters (you have 12 so far, yes?), so you have more than 2 books here.
Yes, they are an amazing amount of work! Lee Moyer (who I met on Facebook, but he left. Prob Instagram now?) Anyway, he wrote some free unm depth articles on his experience running successful ones (and ones that he did the set for and the guy took the money, bought a house, screwed everyone, until these original originators took it back, made it anyway. I think an effort of 3-4 yrs? But that was the bad ones. ) We’ve bought at least 100 kickstarters. Only had 2 disappear. Not a bad record.
But Hiveworks is running Minna’s now. Maybe you can get three same deal? I’d be like you… (oh. I’ll edit for you, if you like, if the time comes). I wouldn’t want all that work either. (Especially after you’ve been giving it out for free for so long. Thank you!!!) But then, I’m getting old, slowing down… you’re still young.
Go for it. Plan, definitely. Read Lee’s writings. Tell him I sent you. (I used to buy his cheesecake calendars for my hubs. Lee isn’t making them anymore )
I’d be glad to be of help when you need/want it.
(I first came upon that phrase in Defiance, a sf tv series that didn’t go on long enough… it was the name of the bordello/bar/trading post in the town of Defiance, Kansas. After three aliens brought their World Wars to us… loved that show for so many things in it…
i’ll have to check that out. i’m always up for more advice, especially from the veterans who’ve done this stuff before. so thanks for the prodding, and of course the offer of assistance. and you’re right, you never do know. i suppose i’ve been more reserved in my expectations since this started. not in a negative way, just in the way that i don’t want to put too much pressure on the success of the comic to be a massive hit, to the point where it would frustrate me if it wasn’t.
i don’t think i’m THAT young, older than the average webcomic artist, but i intend to see it through. the original idea wasn’t to just post it for free, but a friend put the idea in my head, so i bit the bullet. i figured it beat the alternative of never trying, but complaining i didn’t get a shot.
btw, i have phone irritations too. mine looks like someone used it as a hockey puck for a while. typing is such a pain.
