“… and tell you what. I’m going to teach you how to make my signature drink, the Gibson Grin! In case you need some extra courage for those inclinations of yours. It’s one part middle-shelf gin, one part mineral tap water, and you garnish the glass with the blood of enemies who thought you were close friends.”
oh damn…. you just gave me an awesome idea… i should make drinks for all the characters. yours is funny, but i could make real ones. this is a lame/great idea!
Man, that’ll suck if Seagull’s upgrading Brutus as we watch. Might change the entire calculus of what’s going on. I wonder if that’s why Gibson failed to take out his brother?
And so Gibson enables some interesting chaos. I wouldn’t play down Owen’s IQ. Just because someone has a “disadvantaged” childhood and early career doesn’t mean that he’s an idiot. He is resourceful. He is adaptive. Those qualities take intelligence. If you extrapolated my future based on my childhood, I shouldn’t be where I am today. This may be Owen’s ticket to a better future. May be. Depends on a lot of things, doesn’t it?
well, he’s certainly no genius. but who is? but you’re right. he has adapted. somewhat. took him a while, but he’s getting in the flow of things. but he’s still getting pulled in multiple directions for now. his story arc may have him taking more control in his future, but his past, as you put it, is disadvantaged.
Replying to my own post because my autocorrect gave “interesting” wrong guesses: wing side and wearing side were both supposed to be WRONG sides.
And dramedies is prob the best spelling of that style/genre.
acid blade… i wanted to come up with something newish, not the same old laser scalpel, or vibro sword, so, i thought, a knife, that looks like it has little sacs of venom in the handle that ooze out of the blade. well it’s not a plot point, so i didn’t work TOO hard on it.
and yeah, he’s not overly smart. which i think you need in an epic tale. someone who gets kicked around by big players. reminds you that in a massive city, that some people are just average schlubs who get caught up in things.

Getting kicked around a lot makes even smart people make it harder to make decisions … and smart decisions.
it’s not generally the place you want to make change from.

too many plot points to comment on there, don’t want to give much away. but a simple upgrade isn’t as much my style.
That is a fair reply :p
Regardless, I’m rooting for Owen. It’s rough to be forced out of your comfortable dysfunctional niche…
that’s life. that’s what i like about him as a character. he’s not just a fish out of water, he’s a fish with shellshock.
Shouldn’t that be fishingnetshock?

Same here Brian! Grew up on the wing side of the river, wearing side of the tracks.
According to the tv police dramadies, I really should be a serial killer.. or poisoner.. maybe baby killer??
maybe you are, you just haven’t had a good reason yet. give it time.

Acid blade! Aaaand maybe half a mind is being generous? I mean he’s a sweetie and all, but he’s not the brightest crayon in the box…

Aaaaah, so that’s Gibson’s angle. Makes sense.
Really interesting spin of the story here, gotta say.
gotta keep you guys on the edges of your seats! it’s getting harder.
