A Virgil of Your Very Own
A bit back when the covid was doing it’s covid thing, I realized i had some spare time on my hands, and decided that if i didn’t keep myself busy, I would be running the streets with a pack of stray dogs inside a week. But with a mask on, come on now, I wasn’t about to go THAT feral. So, I got myself a 3d printer, an some plastic, and thought that would be an fun little toy.
Ok, it’s fun, but my god is it complex. But, I also have a background in 3d modelling, so, i thought to myself, ‘Myself, you should model something, and print it out!’ That was a while ago, but I’m happy now to show you all the fruits of my labours.
You may, or may not be so surprised, but this actually took a a lot of work, and a lot of time. I made the mistake of choosing a character largely made of pistons. and thin things like that are delicate. well, it was, but then i worked it out, and this is actually pretty sturdy, AND, I think it came out quite well.
So, where I’m at now, is I’d like to find a way to gift to my high tier patrons a virgil bust of their very own. depending on what kinda of response i get to this post, and who maybe interested, i’ll figure out a way to do it. might just mean patrons cover the costs of shipping. anyone else who wants one, let me know, and maybe with a fixed donation on my Kofi account, we can make this happen!
I don’t expect demand will be so high i will have to work out an actual online payment method situation, but to those who are interested, let me know either as an email, or in response to this post. I did it mainly to do it, and i thought it would be a fun thing to do. If i could, i’d give one to everyone who wanted one, but shipping is a racket, so here we are.
the added bonus of having actually modelled virgil is now maybe my drawings of him will have a hint of constancy, now that i have a real live model to pose for me.
no nudes.
ok, he does nudes.
Re: Virgil’s nudes – Didn’t you do a fake pin-up of him over on Patreon waaaay back?
Re: The comic – Wueren appears to be thinking of a Diogenes (the Cynic) quote that would go over like a lead balloon right now. “I’ve gone from where men live to where women lurk.”
haha, um, not a nude, i drew on one of him dancing on a stripper pole, or something like that. so, not nude, but not NOT nude.
i’ve never heard that one. that has a funny ring to it, considering what’s goin on.
Oh yeah! I was thinking of the stripper pole thing. That “facial” expression he was imitating with his hand in front of his “face” is probably why I remembered it as a WWI pin-up. As for the Diogenes quote, it’s something he said after returning to Athens from Sparta. Someone referenced Sparta a couple pages ago so it was fresh in my mind.
ahh. well, i would have to look, and i don’t know where that drawing is. you know you’ve made it when you’ve done so much art, you only vaguely remember your own work.
That looks great! Good to keep creative. You could always make the STL file available to people too. No shipping to send an email to folks who have access to 3D printing…
that’s true, i didn’t think about that… ok, i’ll post it to thingaverse, and post a link to it next week!
The one we wanted got swooped on by some jerk with cash to buy it out of pocket. So much for my dream home. Search starts again tomorrow.
yeah, that’s always the way. when we were looking, we ran into a lot of younger people who were house hunting with their folks who were more savvy, and bankrolling the whole endeavour. you can’t compete with people who have folks who are willing to put off retirement to help fund a home purchase.
sorry to hear, get back on the hunt! good luck!
Absolutely 100% DO WANT!!! Gonna try to buy a house tomorrow and I may need one of those for my very first decoration! Great work!
oh yeah!? you’re going all in on a place of your own, eh? well, hit me up for tips on how to drywall, and i’ll tell you how to do it wrong, just do you know what not to do.
fingers crossed, good luck!
