What if the projectiles are some kind of dense liquid, being flung at extremely high speed, sort of like a linear magnetic pulse/water jet cutter? Call ’em “squirt guns”.??
…And yes, I have a real 26 watt laser that looks like a snub-nosed revolver. It can burn a nail at 4 feet, or burn a board at 24 feet. I’d show you some pictures, if I could. Ed.
The liquid would have to be like mercury, but I don’t think it would hold together for very long. What we are seeing punched through concrete like a .50-cal, but with a much smaller cartridge.
CO2 cutting laser? It’s been a long time since I paid attention to that stuff. Why, it looks great for my army of Raspberry Pi-powered death bots! (joke!) Do you realize that the “mad scientist army of the future” could be rolling for under $10,000? And this stuff is off the shelf, today!
When I worked with the Halo team, I had a lot of ideas about future warfare. Unfortunately, they were all about producing a game instead of thinking about what war could be in the future. Really, they’re 500+ years in the future, and at best Halo has Mogadishu technicals running around. By that time, you could deploy nanobots, and the environment could become your hostile weapon. Toss any soldier like Master Chief in there, and they would be oh so dead, oh so fast. It would look like sorcerers battling in hell. The machines would deform and reform, and make a T1000 look like a sad joke.
hey, you worked on a halo game? ‘I’ worked on a halo game! not so crazy i guess, they are huge endeavors….. i did some cinematics for ODST. small world.
but i get the schism there. it’s a catch 22. make something realistic, adhere to the science unwaveringly, and it might seem too dry. don’t use science as a basis for sci fi, and it might as well be ‘fantasy’.a middle ground might compromise either side. what do you do?
and when your raspberry pi army is on the move, remember, i was cool, man.
that’s awesome! tell you what, you can email me, at my email link, top left, or, feel free to post them right here in the comments, if you can. i’m not sure if you guys can do that. but i’m sure everyone would love to see it!
Looked like the trails passed over smiley-bot as far as I could see, close but no shrapnel and therefor no hit.
Might depend on monitor brightness/darkness though on how easy it is to tell.
I don’t think they are firing lasers. The weapons exhibit recoil, indicating that a slug has fired. I’m guessing that the weapons are some kind of rail gun, but in a much smaller package. The Navy, though, has decided that just using sabot slugs is good enough.
Another option could be to use a technological mix of cartridge and rail gun.
if i’m being honest, i’m not sure what the technology at play here is. i like the look of it, it’s not totally a matter driver, but it’s no completely energy either. it’s just… what it is. looks painful though. i may flesh that out in the future, i may not.
Eh, hybrid. The lightning could be from the same effect as a Jacob’s ladder spark gap. It’s following the path left by the projectile. Definitely not something you want to use in an area with lots of flammable gases.
haha, you guys are thinking bout this way more than i ever did. my main goal was to make it not look lame. like the gun fire in old gi joe comics in the 80s. pew pew.
no, so, they seem to bleed freely. so, i guess it’s not ‘all heat’. i think it’s mostly force, but energy too. and sparkles, and kittens. i remember having the same debate when i was a kid. why did darth vader’s lightsaber annihilate obi wan, and obi wan’s sliced the cantina patron’s arm off and left blood? i guess the answer is ‘fun’!
Obiwan was ready to go “poof” the moment he was killed with anything. Originally, the trailer for “Revenge of the Jedi” showed him back in flesh and blood, with Vader entering Jabba’s place. That’s the difference between the cantina scene and Obiwan-Vader show down. Obiwan was wired! (And Solo fired first!)
well of COURSE han shot first. that’s a given. and if you disagree, you’re not welcome here! haha, kidding.
i never saw that trailer though. i mean, i’m age appropriate, and i do remember seeing the standies for ‘revenge of the jedi’ (totally dating myself here). i think the main difference was with obi wan, they were implying some sort of transcendence. i guess the bar patron didn’t go to church enough.
thanks though. i toyed with keeping it all one colour, but i decided, why not have a little fun with it? also, it reads better this way. the scene, i mean.
Oh, you will have to scroll down a ways to find it.
Ed.
is that the laser deringer? pretty cool! reminds me of the sci fi guns from like the 70s. high on style, rounded edges, almost like little sculptures.

I gotta say, that seems like an incredibly cool laser.

Sorry, the email address is not being recognized by mine for some reason. Let’s try and figure out some way to do this.
In the mean time, see if you can go to my Facebook site, You can see the little 6-watt I put together a while back.

He wasn’t my favorite grin anyways. I like the one with the nicer teeth…
hahah, they all have kinda weird teeth. chipper fellas though.
Yowch! So much for his shootin’ arm, I wonder if smiley-bot is armed?
Smiley bot got blasted. That’s one of the smiley meat guys.
the bot was actually missed. maybe i didn’t draw that in a way people could tell….

Would that wound be self-cauterizing?

‘Fun’ is the best answer!
it usually is.

At least she’s a good shot. And I like the color of her shots, same as my laser weapon.
you have a laser weapon?! lucky ducky.
