I started on Wednesday and now I’m caught up, which kind of bums me out, but I guess I can catch up on the comics I’ve been ignoring while engrossed in this one. I love what you’re doing here.
Coincidentally, I started reading a book called “Framed Ink” earlier this week, which is a book about laying out illustrations (particularly in the context of comics). Black and Blue has been a fantastic companion because it does all these cool techniques I’m reading about and is helping cement them in my brain. I just grabbed everything on Comixology to make it easier to bounce around and steal bits of your style. :)
thanks! always glad to have a new reader! i’ve never heard of that book, but looking it up, i like the style, i may have to grab a copy.
i don’t know what techniques i’m using they talk about, but that’s cool. so much of what i’ve figured out has been trial and error. sadly, i learn things the hard way, haha. is that link your own comic? looks interesting, keep up the good work!
The two things I kept noticing were the way you use light and dark, and the way your lines guide the eye within each panel and across the page as a whole (I’m still not very far into the book, haha). Stuff I was vaguely aware of, but it suddenly made sense in a way it hadn’t before. It doesn’t replace doing the actual work, but it helped me figure out how to see it and practice it better.
Yep, that’s my comic! I don’t always make time to work on it like I should. As helpful as books (and videos and whatnot) can be, ultimately doing the work yields the most improvement.
haha, maybe a little. but i did try to give them more than just character, but their own arcs in the story. and i hope that comes across. and yes, i have some stuff i think that will make brutus interesting.
you may see this as helpful, but it really isn’t. picking at the quality of something free, paying no heed to the massive effort this all takes, but straight to the criticism, is crass.
i appreciate all my readers, i wish my readership would grow, but it isn’t. and i doubt it’s cause i used the wrong form of lead.
Excellent
Oops, that was meant to be a reply to Brutus getting his big break
haha, i figured.

It seems Brutus may be getting interesting real soon. Does liking the robots the most make me a misanthrope?

“*led you to this place.” It’s not your fault, we made “lead” the present tense and “lead” the metal spelled the same way. If you want a mnemonic,
“the LED lights in the plane led me to the door where a flaming fireball from the exploding engine melted half my body” is a good one.
