I’ve probably spent more time than is reasonable thinking about Boss Ari’s temper. I think he is either someone with volcanic anger (that’s an actual term for it), or that he’s someone with an incredible temper but the intelligence to keep it under control until he’s sure it’s not detrimental to vent it. Hard to say exactly which is the case. It’s possible that he had a lot of stress relieved by blowing up the biggest troll in his life (Angel).
Panel 2 is my favorite. Two comics ago (last panel), he was keeping a neutral expression while casually letting Titus build up a debt of violent execution. Now he’s had to switch to keeping a neutral expression for price negotiation. The difference in facial expression is subtle. Oh, and some credit to Titus there for not getting greedy.
If anyone’s forgotten, because of the time that’s passed, the “feron wave” is the death ray Boss Ari has been waiting on the Tech Tree to construct since before the comic’s story began. Boss Ari really wants that death ray. Beatrice (the head) betrayed her engineering team, tried to sell their non-functional feron wave to Gibson, which led to Gibson abducting her and selling her to Ivar (who worked for Angel at the time and recently mugged Julius/Harold to get the head back, so he can try and buy favor with the Queen in the Sky), and ultimately led to Angel keeping her in a basement making feron wave components for the Tech Tree.
None of those are spoilers, BTW; I binge re-read the comic a couple weeks ago and bunch of little details stood out a lot more.
hey, get on over to the discord with that kinda insight!
jk, but i really appreciate you mentioning the reread value of the comic. i really wanted to make it something that would make more sense on a second read, but still be worthwhile first time out.
I finally stopped being lazy a week and a half ago and got on there. I’m not on Discord often. I think last time I was on, my sect that was an offshoot from your future cult tripled in membership (in the future, after you have a cult for us to then revolt from).
Why would the old mob man care about the old gambling man? You got to know when to hold ’em, know when to fold ’em, know when to walk away, and know when to run …

I mean, if Therp was a good gambler, he probably wouldn’t have so much debt
i think we can pretty much assume that his life did not see him do well with the risks he has taken.
here’s the thing though…. you don’t count your money then and there, cause what people don’t realize is that they can still do that. you know, later.
There seems to be no honor among thieves. Not that there ever was.
